“Are We Testing God, or Trusting God?”
BIBLE MEDITATION:
“And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘you shall not put the Lord your God to the test,” Luke 4:12
ENCOURAGING WORD:
I believe that there is a huge misunderstanding in reference to testing God and trusting God. I believe we have all fallen prey to this at one time or another in our lives. I know that I have become victim to this many times in my younger days before I knew the lord personally! I would often find myself saying, “God, if you really love me will give me __________ “(Fill in the blank). Many people think that God is some kind of genie ready to fulfill your every command. Then we read the Bible and come to verses such as John 14:13–14; “And whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” To the average reader, without any Biblical knowledge, this verse could certainly appear to be interpreted in a way that would assure the reader an answer in the affirmative, but you have to read it in the right context. We read in Psalm 9:10; “And those who know your name (Jesus) put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.” The Bible is full of promises from God, but what most people do not understand is that there is always some kind of action that we need to take to make ourselves worthy. Here is a promise that we need to understand, Psalm 37: 4- 6; “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.” Once again, this promise falls in our court to totally commit to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will act. The reason that we don’t hear answers to our prayers is because we don’t fulfill our side of the deal. Jesus said in John 10:10b; “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” God want us to enjoy life, but He wants our love and fellowship above everything else. I mean true love and fellowship, not just sitting in church for an hour each week!
ACTION POINT:
You are going to be held accountable for what you do and what you believe. You need to pray about what you do and let the Holy Spirit guide you through truth. Follow your heart not your mind! Our minds lead us to all kinds of bad decision, our heart will guide us in truth. “Written To the glory of God, Inspired by the Holy Spirit!” Amen!
